Breaking the aging curse

I woke up thinking about aging. It’s a sneaky little bugger. It happens to everyone, yet we all seemed surprised when it happens to us. It doesn’t matter if you get your first spot of hyperpigmintation when you are 28 or when your eyelids drop at 50. We are still shocked. I was the worst. I thought I had it beat. I’ve been blessed with having access to great skincare from an early age, so when I started getting spots across my cheeks I was floored! Of course I was in the sun all summer, but I wore spf (most of the time), and I spent my early 20’s surrounded by smoke, pollution, acne, and overall funkness. But did I deserve to get punished with discoloration? No. I washed my face every night. (Seriously, every single night.) I exfoliated, used 90 dollar creams, drank a lot of water, and I still got the aging curse. Now the only thing I can do is step up my skincare game. I’m not the only one. The number one question I get asked is, “How do I look younger?” Here is your answer:  invest in skincare that will help reduce skin aging and prevent it from getting worse.

Splendor is a fantastic place to start your new skincare journey. Go in, sit down, and list your troubles.

retinolStart with cleansing. Gone is the day when cleansers just removed makeup and dirt. They have evolved into exfoliators and hydrators. If you are over 30 you need to start being aggressive. No more drug store lines! Ask about Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Purifying Cleansing Oil . It will remove all your makeup, plus dirt and grime. The beauty of this product is that it doesn’t strip your skin of hydration. (And no, it won’t make you break out!). Imagine you are washing dishes. The dishwasher will do a lot of the work, but you always need to rinse off your dishes first. Cleansing oil is your pretreat. It loosens up all the funk on your face so you can have super clean skin!

Next, research retinols. Retinol is just vitamin A with a little boost. It breaks down skin cells to repair what is under the surface. You have beautiful skin under the layers that are on your face now, you just need help bringing them up. (I can’t help thinking about the Jeffersons theme song, movin’ on up!) Using retinols responsibly won’t cause redness or sloughing of the skin, it is a gentle approach that will take months, so don’t get antsy. What to try: Philosophy Help Me. It is time released, which means that you don’t have to worry about over application!

Since you are treating with a retinol, don’t jump into an aggressive moisturizer. Find something hydrating and soothing. Dermalogica is one of moisturizermy favorite skincare lines. You can use the entire anti-aging line and get amazing results! I am particularly fond of their moisturizers. For daytime try the Dynamic Skin Recovery with SPF 30. It helps with skin elasticity, hydration, and can even work wonders on brown spots and discoloration. They have a sibling for nighttime that is our #1 selling moisturizer- try Super Rich Repair.

Oh our eyes, they cause us our greatest strife. Under eye wrinkles age us and it’s the only place we can’t use a bra to help drooping. Believe it or not, the skin under your eye is the thinnest place on our whole body. It’s delicate. Try using Kinerase C8 Peptide Under Eye Serum with the Clarisonic Opal. The Opal maximizes absorption in a way that’s not possible with your finger alone.. imagine your eye cream on steroids. The serum contains peptides that are great for getting into the skin and improving collagen production (think getting a lip injection for under your eye). After the serum, try the Caudalie Premier Cru eye cream, it is an amazing luxuriant cream with eye opening brightening properties.clarisonic
Finally, go get a Clarisonic Brush. You have probably read about this machine in magazines for years. Your skin will look noticeably firmer,  clearer, brighter, and overall fantastic.
1 minute a night will get you an all new complexion. It’s really that good.

Great write up! I agree, my Clarisonic is possibly my favorite appliance in my whole house 😉 A huge fan of the Super Rich Repair as well, and ANYTHING Kinerase.
